Guest Sketch Friday - Pamela's Friends :)

A quick post before I head out of town for a weekend in Ohio (!!!) - Pamela was kind enough to send me these sketches she did... so cute.  There are others, but lets pace ourselves, shall we?

Guest sketch : Hallstein's "House"

In January of 2004 I was one of 16 i.arc students to volunteer to help with the construction of The Snow Show.  It was insanely cold, came with an impossible language barrier, and the gear we had to purchase probably cost more than the plane ticket.  However, it is my all-time favorite experience from college.  The people we met and scale of the actual projects (not hypothetical school projects) we worked-on was amazing.

One of the people I met was Hallstein Guthu - from Norway? - and we worked on the same piece in Kemi.  We've kept in touch (very minimally, unfortunately) and I recently saw this project he posted.  The work - concept, development, graphics - is unreal.  Check out his site for more information.

"HOUSE is a selfsufficient dwelling on the water, for use all over the world; a home on the European waterways, by the coastline of Antarctica or bobbing in Caribbean waters; the new way of living, where freedom, sustainability and experiences without borders is the keyfocus."

(Belated) Guest Sketch - My One & Only :)

Sorry for being a couple days late on this one - I ended the week so exhausted I felt a little intoxicated and spent the weekend almost entirely in my apartment putting my life back together!  This guest sketch was sent to me at work with a verrry professional cover-letter by my twin sister in Ohio.  I'm sure you'll be just as impressed as I was / am :)

Guest Sketch Friday : Pamela for P+W

Pamela is a coworker / designer that I had no patience for in the beginning of my time at Perkins+Will. I had her figured out - cold, reserved...rude. You know the type. After a few months here, though, she's pretty much my go-to for everything. I think she could write a full novel with all of the questions I've asked her, and she's "like, totally my bff" here in the windy city :)

Well, P+W has a "bike to work" program and guess who did a little logo work for it? You guessed it. Designers have this tendency to poke fun at themselves and their obsession with their careers by working things like t-squares, architectural scales, pens, pencils and markers and - of course - overlapping corners, into everything. I think the only things missing from the figure on this bike are bloodshot eyes and some kind of caffeine supplement. Golden.

ekd : Guest Sketch Friday!

Today's guest sketch - a little later in the day, but still on Friday - comes from Dallas. Erin is one of the greats - she works for Global Views and travels more than she sleeps, I think. She sent me a couple blind contours she did while she was studying abroad and said she liked the kangaroo enough to screen-print it onto some tshirts. One more thing I want to learn to do...

Guest Sketch Friday : Erinn Huttas

Erinn sat next to me at work up until about a week ago, at which point the economy took her away from me. She was a project designer and I believe she has both interiors and graphics experience, among other things. She worked her ass off, and losing her was a huge surprise. We shared gum and her ipod charger. I miss her. Thank you, Erinn, for taking the time to send me a WONDERFUL sketch - stay tuned for more each friday!

Katie Galloway "Guest Sketch Friday" 2

Katie did this sketch of The Jefferson Inn in Southern Pines, NC... charming :) I think she said they're now using it for branding purposes!

Katie Galloway "Guest-Sketch-Friday" 1

I've asked a couple good friends if they'd be so kind as to give me a break from sketching for a day and do a "guest-sketch" on this sweet little blog that has become my creative outlet (outside of work). Katie - the closest thing to family I've found outside of family - and proud new mom to a beaUtiful little boy, was kind enough to oblige. One more reason I love her.
